British Airways

British Airways is a global airline and the UK’s flag carrier, flying customers to where they need to be for more than 100 years. The airline connects Britain with the world and the world with Britain, putting customers and sustainability at its heart and providing service excellence. It is headquartered in London, England, near its main hub at Heathrow Airport.

The aviation industry is profoundly affected by the pandemic, and British Airways is no exception. The sector continuously digs to find new ways to recover from the damages caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. In 2021, BA reported a loss in revenue, but because of the increased number of travelers flying again, it just recently reported its first profit since the pandemic. British Airways-owner IAG posted an operating profit for the second quarter of 293 million euros ($300 million), compared with an operating loss of 967 million euros in the same period of 2021, the first time it has delivered a profit since 2019.

British Airways is the second largest UK-based carrier, The airline was created in 1974 after the British Airways Board was established by the British government to manage the two nationalized airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways, and two regional airlines, Cambrian Airways and Northeast Airlines. All four companies were merged to form British Airways.  In January 2011, BA merged with Iberia, creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), a holding company registered in Madrid, Spain. IAG is the world's third-largest airline group in terms of annual revenue and the second-largest in Europe. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and in the FTSE 100 Index.

On Sunday, August 25, 2019, marks British Airways’ 100th birthday, and the airline marked its centenary by celebrating with customers. Alex Cruz, British Airways’ chairman and CEO, said: "They've had a fabulous year so far, marking the airline's centenary and thanking their customers for making them what they are today. They wouldn’t be here without their pioneering spirits and sense of adventure. He thanked all their costumers from that first customer who flew from Hounslow Heath to Paris on 25 August 1919 in a single-engine De Havilland DH4A to the millions who choose to fly with BA every year on more than 800 flights a day to 200 destinations around the globe.

British Airways also established the Heritage Collection, an extensive document archive recording the formation, development, and operations of British Airways and its predecessor companies, as well as memorabilia and artifacts. More than 130 uniforms from the 1930s to the present day are preserved, as is a large collection of aircraft models and pictures.

It is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along with American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and the now-defunct Canadian Airlines. The alliance has since grown to become the third-largest, after SkyTeam and Star Alliance.
